VSD Technology: Save energy with variable speed
What is VSD?
VSD (Variable Speed Drive) is a technology that allows the compressor motor to vary its speed based on the actual air demand. Instead of running at full speed and unloading, a VSD compressor continuously adjusts its output.
Energy savings
Energy costs typically account for 70–80% of a compressor's total cost of ownership over its lifetime. A VSD compressor can reduce energy consumption by 20–35% compared to a fixed-speed model, especially when air demand varies.
Globe Energy's PM VSD compressors from Denair combine a permanent magnet motor with variable speed for class-leading energy efficiency.
When does VSD pay off?
VSDs are most cost-effective when air demand varies significantly throughout the day or week. If your operation has a relatively constant air demand, a properly sized fixed-speed compressor may be sufficient.
